Nancy L. Maddox

Nancy L. Maddox, 70, of Marion, passed away at 2:40 am on Monday, March 29, 2021, at Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home in Fort Wayne. Born in Marion on Monday, July 3, 1950, Nancy was the daughter of William “Bill” and Verlie (Craig) Hutchison. On December 12, 1981, she married her loving husband, Brian W. Maddox, and he survives.

Nancy graduated from Marion High School in 1968 and received her Bachelor’s degree from IU School of Education in 1972. She went on to receive her Master’s degree from Ball State University. Nancy began her teaching career at Paragon Elementary (IN), where she taught from 1972-1975. She came back to Marion in 1975 and would teach at Thomas Jefferson, Martin Boots, Southeast Elementary, and Allen Elementary until her retirement in 2012. She was a member of Indiana Professional Educators.

Nancy was also a member of Lakeview Wesleyan Church, where she was actively involved in the children’s ministry, prayer ministry, and missions. She was an avid follower of Indiana University sports, but her most precious moments were those spent with family and friends and serving the Lord at home and abroad.

In addition to her husband of nearly 39 years, survivors include her daughter, Noelle (Mark) Schlechty of Petersburg; son, Travis (Tammy) Maddox of Marion; brother, Stephen Hutchison of Marion; granddaughters, Jessica (Travis) Cheney, Brilynn Maddox, Haven Maddox, and Jenna Schlechty; grandsons, Gabriel Maddox and Caleb Schlechty; great-grandson, Tristen Cheney; and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; maternal grandparents, Merl (Dottie) Craig; paternal grandparents, George (Maude) Hutchison; and in-laws, Theodore (Geneva) Maddox.

The family will receive visitors from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Monday, April 5, 2021, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.

A funeral service to celebrate Nancy’s life will begin at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, April 6, 2021, at Lakeview Wesleyan Church, 5316 S. Western Ave., Marion, IN. An additional hour of visitation will take place before the service from 12 noon to 1:00 pm. Pastor John Ott and Pastor Chris Williams will be officiating with burial following at Grant Memorial Park.
