Michael J. Hutcheson, 76, Marion, passed away at 1:44 am on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at Wesleyan Health Care & Rehabilitation Center in Marion. He was born in Marion, Indiana, on Tuesday, August 21, 1945, to Billy and Ivetta (Bailey) Hutcheson. On March 15, 2003, he married Susan Kughen.
Michael graduated from Marion High School and served in the United States Marine Corps, where he was honorably discharged. He was a firefighter for 31 years with the Marion Fire Department, as well as fire chief, under two different administrations, retiring in 2004. He was a member of 8th St. Wesleyan Church. Michael loved God, his country, his family, and his fire department brothers.
Survivors include his wife, Susan Kughen-Hutcheson of Marion; brother, David (Shirley) Hutcheson of Swayzee; sister, Becky Moses of Marion; father- and mother-in-law, Gene (Pam) Kughen; nieces, Stacie (Jason) McIntyre, Sarah (Kyle) Miller, and Brooke (Michael) Campbell; nephews, Jason (Dawn) Hutcheson, Lucas Kughen, Austin Kughen, J. Michael Marin, and Gabriel Brown; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and brother-in-law, Mark (Missy) Kughen.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Rick Hutcheson; and brother-in-law, Chris Moses.
The family will receive visitors from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
A graveside service to celebrate Michael’s life will begin at 1:00 pm at Marion National Cemetery. Pastor Dan Van Cise will be officiating.
At the family’s request, please wear a mask while attending services.
