Michael G. Irey passed away at 5:22 am on Sunday, May 22, 2022, in his Marion home surrounded by his loving family at the age of 75. He was born in Fort Wayne on August 9, 1946, to Joe Meredith Smith and Virginia Pauline (Smith) Irey. Pauline remarried when Michael was three years old, and Paul E. Irey became his true father.
Mike lived his youth in Ohio and returned to Marion, where he married Susan McDonald on July 13, 1974. They would have celebrated 48 years together this July.
Mike’s passions included fishing, The Ohio State football games, rock-n-roll, and spending time with his family. He lived for the open road on his beloved Harley and belonged to the Geriatric Angels, a group of friends and Harley Riders. He retired from the Grant County Sheriff’s Department after 16 years of service.
He is survived by his wife, Susan; daughter, Kristina (Todd) Reardon; his “little guy”, Bozley; grandson, Chris Reardon; great-grandchildren, Layla and Connor Reardon; sister, Margo Irey; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his daughters, Cher Michelle and Melissa Marie; mother; father(s); sister, Beki Smith; and brothers, Randy and Doug.
Per Mike’s request, there will be no visitation. A private graveside service for family will be held at a later date with Pastor Bill Dumpert officiating.
