Michael Everett Vermilion

Michael Everett Vermilion, 77, of Marion, Indiana, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2023. He was born on September 19, 1945, in Marion, Indiana, to Harold E. Vermilion and Coleen F. (Vian) Vermilion.

Michael was a devoted family man, survived by his loving wife, Mini Bernice (Mcormick) Vermilion. Together, they built a beautiful life and cherished 56 years of marriage. Michael is also survived by his three children, Andrea (Michael) Bates of Upland, Lora (Vermilion) White of Marion, and Eric (Angela) Vermilion of Greenwood. He was a proud grandfather to nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Michael’s memory will forever be treasured by his siblings, Ronald (Kathy) Vermilion, Pamela (Bob) Ashmore, Gary Vermilion, and Mark (Katrina) Vermilion, all of Marion, Indiana.

Michael’s career was characterized by hard work and dedication. He served in the Air Force as a surgery technician, stationed in Marquette, Michigan in 1965. For most of his life, he worked in construction, making valuable contributions to Sebastian Williams Construction. He later served as a Code Enforcement Officer and Building Inspector for the City of Marion. Through his work, Michael cared for and served Grant County, leaving an indelible mark on the community.

In addition to his professional endeavors, Michael had a zest for life. He found solace in the embrace of gospel music, classic rock, and oldies. An avid gym-goer, he enjoyed working out and maintaining his physical well-being. Home improvement projects were a passion, and he took pride in enhancing his surroundings. Michael also loved traveling with his family, creating precious memories along the way.

A man of faith, Michael was active in his church community. He found comfort in his spiritual journey and exemplified his devotion through acts of service to others.

Anyone who had the pleasure of knowing Michael knew that they would be greeted with a smile that would light up a room. His smile made people instantly feel welcomed and embraced. Without question, his grandkids and great-grandkids were often the reason for his million dollar smile.

Michael’s family is especially grateful to all of the medical staff, caregivers, and hospice workers for caring for him over the last year.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during the viewing at Storey Chapel (400 E. Main St, Gas City, IN) on June 22, 2023, from 4-7 pm. A funeral service to celebrate Michael’s life will be held at Storey Chapel on June 23, 2023, at 11 am.
