Michael E. Stoffel

Michael E. Stoffel, age 66, of Huntington, died at 3:42 a.m. Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home in Fort Wayne.

Visitation will be from 3 – 7 p.m. Sunday, August 26, 2018 at Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 West Park Drive, Huntington, Indiana, with rosary services following at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, August 27, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Huntington, with Father Adam Mauman officiating. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Huntington.

Preferred memorials are to Miles for Myeloma, Masses to the donor’s choice, or Bishop Luers High School (girls’ basketball program), in care of Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 West Park Drive, Huntington, Indiana, 46750.

Mike was born on January 9, 1952 in Huntington, the son of A. Richard and Wilma M. (Laymon) Stoffel. He graduated from Huntington Catholic High School in 1970 and married Debbie A. Johnson on June 5, 1971 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntington. In 1975, Mike earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from IPFW. He owned and operated at T & C Disposal in Huntington for 27 years, retiring in 2003. He was a member of Knights of Columbus and a past member of Huntington Jaycees. He coached basketball at Huntington Catholic High School and at the grade school level for over 20 years. Mike served as assistant basketball coach for the Bishop Luers High School girls’ team for 12 years. He especially loved watching men’s IU basketball and he loved playing softball and basketball on various leagues. With his business, he sponsored softball and basketball teams through Huntington Parks Department. He enjoyed vintage cars, particularly his own 1969 GTO.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Debbie A. Stoffel of Huntington, a son, Travis M. Stoffel of Fort Wayne, daughters Amy M. Stoffel and Bethany A. Stoffel, both of Huntington, a granddaughter, Henley Freds of Huntington, brothers Nick Stoffel of Huntington and Fred Stoffel of Larwill, sisters Sandy (Daniel) Winkelman of Stevens Pointe, Wisconsin and Patti (Bob) Bowen of Huntington, and his stepmother, Judy Stoffel of Huntington. His parents precede him in death.
