Merrill “Gene” Lewis, 90, Fairmount, died Sunday, December 23, 2018 at St. Joseph Hospital in Ft. Wayne.
Gene was born on September 6, 1928 in Fairmount, Indiana, son of the late Iliff Ward and Sarah L. (Leach) Lewis. He Graduated from Fairmount High School and served state side in the Army during the Korean conflict. He married Julia G. “Gerry” Lewis on July 15, 1962. Gerry preceded him in death on December 25, 2017. Gene retired in 1990 from the VA Hospital after 20 plus years as a nursing assistant. He attended the Fowlerton United Methodist Church as well as Matthews Primitive Baptist Church. He enjoyed gardening.
Gene is survived by daughter; Julia (David) McCord, Medina, OH; son, David (Lisette) Lewis, Byron, GA; six grandchildren, Ashley Lewis, Taylor Lewis, Colin McCord, Jared McCord, Randall Osterhout, and Elsie Osterhout; two great-grandchildren, Evelynn Caillavet and Charlotte Caillavet; and brother, Charlie Lewis, Fairmount.
Services will be at the Fairmount Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 415 S. Main Street, Fairmount, Indiana. Visitation is Sunday, December 30, 2018 from 4-6 PM. Funeral Service is Monday, December 31, 2018 at 10 AM with Rev. Jack Scott officiating. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery, Fairmount.
