Merrill D. Miller

Merrill D. Miller, 91, of Huntington, Indiana, died at 4:17 p.m., Thursday, December 6, 2018 at Wellbrooke of Wabash. He was born May 27, 1927 in Huntington, to John and Blanche (Comer) Miller.

Merrill was a graduate of Bippus High School and a U.S. Army Veteran. He married Sharlene Derr in Huntington on August 7, 1962 and she died in 1989. He retired from Navistar in Fort Wayne after 37 years and held 7 patents for different designs. Merrill was an avid golfer and bowler and was a huge Chicago Bears and Jeff Gordon fan. He also loved his dog “Booker”.

He is survived by his daughter, Cindy (Mark) Solloway of Wabash, Indiana, two grandsons, Rob Beekman of Russiaville, Indiana, and Joe Beekman of Kokomo, Indiana, two great grandchildren, brother, Eldon (Karen) Miller, and his brother-in-law, Jack Smith, both of Huntington. He was also preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Beth (Miller) Beekman, brother, Gene Miller, sister, Deloris Smith, and his twin sisters.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, with Pastor Scott Nedberg officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter’s First United Church of Christ Cemetery, Huntington. Friends may call 2-8 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home.

Preferred memorial is the Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation.
