Melvin L. Herring, Sr.

Melvin L. Herring, Sr., age 85, of Marion, passed away Friday, May 25, 2018 at Miller’s Merry Manor.

Melvin was born on November 3, 1932 in Marion, Indiana the son of the late Edwin and Marian (Fite) Herring.  He married Fairy A. Barnes on October 31, 1952 and she preceded him in death on March 10, 2014.

He was a United States Marine during the Korean Conflict working in state on helicopters.  He was a supervisor in the press room at General Motors in Marion for 37 years.

Melvin enjoyed gardening, yard work and watching westerns.

He is survived by three daughters, Cara (John) Martin of N. Fort Myers, Florida, Cheryl Likens of Marion and Lucinda (Mike) Parsons of Indianapolis; sister, Barbara Dailey of Ft. Wayne; sister-in-law, Phyllis Barnes of Marion; grandchildren, Brandy (Dwayne) Goad, Christy (David) Yoder, Joseph Herring, Cassandra (Todd) Korporal, Louis (Crystal) Herring and Ryan Herring; great-grandchildren, Taylor, Caroline, Paige, Trent, Ty, Korbin Allen, Tori, Hailey, Audrey, Kora Lynn and Madelyn; and many step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Melvin Lewis “Skip” Herring; son-in-law, George Likens; brother, Robbie Herring; 2 sisters-in-law and 2 brothers-in-law.

Graveside Services with Military Honors will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 1, 2018 at Estates of Serenity, Marion, Indiana.
