Melaina G. Thompson, 56, passed away at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne on September 3, 2018. She was born in Fort Knox, Kentucky on September 12, 1961 to Von G. Whelchel and Marilyn K. (Long) Cox.
Melaina graduated from Mississinewa High School and she was a long-time resident of Grant County. Melaina enjoyed crocheting, word search puzzles, playing Atari and taking rides in the car. She had a passion for collecting and burning candles. Melainia was a people person and she never met a stranger.
She is survived by husband, Joe H. Thompson, Marion; mother, Marilyn K. Cox, Marion; brother, Von Dwayne Whelchel, San Antonino, Texas.
She is preceded in death by her father, Von G. Whelchel; brother, Ron Whelchel; sister, Brenda Mahl.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, September 7, 2018 at Owen-Weilert-Duncan Funeral Home, Marion Chapel, 2722 South Washington Street, Marion, Indiana with Bruce Everett officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on September 7, 2018 from 11:00-1:00. Burial will immediately follow at Gardens of Memory, 11201 South Marion Road 35, Marion, Indiana 46952.
