Mattie Sellers

Mattie Sellers, 91, passed away on Thursday, September 20, 2018 at Colonial Oaks Health Care Center in Marion. Mattie was born in Pollock South Dakota, the youngest of 3 daughters, on April 21, 1927 to the late John Frederick and Annie Marie Solomonson. Mattie graduated from West Liberty (Ohio) High School in 1945 and from Asbury College (KY) in 1949. Mattie was a resident of Fairmount from 1965 until she moved to Colonial Oaks in 2013.

Mattie served as the Executive Secretary for the President of Taylor University from 1966 until her retirement in 1989, spanning the administrations of five Taylor presidents. She loved her work and the many lifelong friends she made at Taylor University. Mattie loved music and served as the organist for the Back Creek Friends Meeting in Fairmount for 40 years. Mattie also played the organ for the annual James Dean Memorial Service from its inauguration until her retirement as organist at Back Creek Friends Meeting.

Mattie was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Jim Sellers, a lifelong Fairmount resident. Mattie was also preceded in death by her two older sisters, Ethel Mae Glassburn and Lois Marie Logan. Mattie is survived by her 3 sons, John (Anna) Wyatt, San Diego CA, Steve (Marlene) Wyatt, Apex NC, and Randy Wyatt, Apex NC, and grandchildren Christina (Darius) Dauer, Apex NC and David (Liz) Wyatt, Chapel Hill NC. Mattie is also survived by her nieces Audrey (Jim) Oliphant, Columbus OH, Annie (Tom) Otto, Gainesville FL, and Becky (Bill) Howell, Athens AL, and her nephew Jeffrey (Nita) Logan, San Jose CA.

The family wishes to express its deep heartfelt thanks for the kind and compassionate care provided by Colonial Oaks Health Care Center and Heart to Heart Hospice. The family will receive visitors from 11 AM to 1 PM on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 with funeral service following at 1 PM with Rev. Ron Forsythe and Pastor Joel Clark officiating at Armes-Hunt Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 415 S. Main Street, Fairmount, IN 46928. Burial will be at Park Cemetery in Fairmount.
