Mattie Nell Lloyd

Mattie Nell Lloyd of Peru, IN passed away on Thursday, August 31, 2023 at home while she slept.

She was born on January 6, 1945, in Smithdale, MS to Luther and Jackie Brumfield. She married Otis Lloyd on December 31, 1967. She followed him through his military career in the Air Force for 22 years until his retirement in October 1987.

Mattie, although not in service, served as a cook and at the NCO club at Grissom Air Force Base for 10 years. She also worked at the Bowling Alley serving and helping the youth there.

She loved cooking along with watching her favorite baseball team, Cincinnati Reds, along with being a sideline coach for all four of her children. While spending a lifetime helping the service men of our military, she touched more lives with a kind word and a home cooked meal of the thousands she has served. She helped raise all her grandchildren with a deep passion for family and strong sense of faith. She will continue to be missed but will remain present through all of the lives she touched and everyone that she left behind.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children; Roshell Lloyd, Fredrick Lloyd, Peru, IN, five grandchildren; Javon Lloyd, Lafayette, IN, Paxton Burchett-Lloyd, Anya Burchett-Lloyd, Eugene, OR Benjamin Lloyd, and Ava Lloyd Argus, IN. Sisters; Sheilia Carter, Gladys Lopez, Baton Rouge, LA, Nancy Carter, Macomb, MS, Lisa Carter, Cynthia Carter, New Orleans, LA, and one brother, Joe Carter, Magnolia, MS.

Mattie is preceded in death by her two sons; Otis and Jamar Lloyd, her parents, one sister, Maggie Quin, and three brothers; Herthey Carter, Michael Carter, and Luther Brumfield.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 7, 2023 from 11am to 2pm at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 West Third Street, Peru. The funeral service will follow at 2pm with Donald Fuller Sr. officiating. Internment will take place at Marion National Cemetery at 10am on Monday, September 11, 2023.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the American Heart and Diabetes Association.
