Mary “Sandra” Hochstetler

Mary “Sandra” Hochstetler, 76, Danville, Illinois, passed away at 10:40 p.m. on Wednesday, May 9, 2018, at North Logan Nursing in Danville, Illinois.  She was born in Marion on June 7, 1941, to the late Lester R. and Florence P. (Summerlot) Hochstetler.

Sandra was a graduate of Mississinewa High School and worked at Harris Corporation until her retirement.  Sandra also attended the Friends Church in Jonesboro when she was a child.  She spent most of her life in Florida and owned a home in Fellsmere.

Sandra loved flowers and animals, especially cats, dogs, fish, chickens, and horses, which she owned.  Sandra enjoyed her privacy and the simple life, but she also cherished the times spent with her family and being outdoors in the country.  She was particularly close to her nephew, Mark, and his family.  Some additional interests included science fiction, reading, shopping, card/board games, and listening to a variety of music.  Sandra always looked forward to eating at Memaw’s Bar-B-Q in Palm Bay, Florida, and was a regular customer.  Two of her fondest memories were traveling to Canada and Boston with family.

She will be missed by several nieces and nephews, Mark (Jennifer) McGowin, Paula (Michael) Lopez, Marcia (Brent) Prine, Jeff (Ashley) Hochstetler, Susan (Robert) Gray, and Candy (Bruce) Houmes, as well as siblings, Paul (Diane) Hochstetler, Norma Black, and Patty Nelson.

Also preceding her in death were her niece, Cindy Mizell; sister, Wilma Brown; and brothers-in-law, Shirley Black, Joe Nelson, and Otis Brown.

The family will receive visitors from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with Sandra’s funeral service beginning at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN.  Pastor Al Soultz will be officiating with burial following at Gardens of Memory.
