Mary Hovermale

“You have run the race and now you’re home!” With two of her daughters by her side, Mary quietly and peacefully left her earthly body and entered the gates of Heaven at 1:09am, Sunday, February 3, 2019 in Marion General Hospital, Marion.

On May 9, 1928 Mary Edith was one of eleven children born in Bath County, Kentucky to the late William Henry and Sarah Minnie (Moore) Sparks. It’s hard to imagine Mary foreseeing how much her life would change after meeting Horace Monroe Hovermale in her early twenties. On December 22, 1949 the two were married and from their union they created a family of eleven children. Horace preceded her in death on March 20, 2007. Mary was the heart of the family-caring and loving to four generations of Hovermales. She is loved and will be forever missed by her entire family and anyone who met her. Mary was a devoted child of God and active member of Converse United Methodist Church. Her faith leaves a lasting legacy and is an example to all.

Mary is survived by her children, Clark (Geri) Hovermale, Jeff (Brenda) Hovermale, both of Sweetser; Janice Martin, Roy (Cheri) Hovermale, Becky (Steve) Campbell, Adrian (Teresa) Hovermale and Steve (Angela) Hovermale, all of Converse; Bill Hovermale, Ft. Wayne, Russell (Judy) Hovermale, Denver, Indiana; Barbara Kidd, South Bend; grandchildren, Staci Couch, Doug Hovermale, Denise, Stephanie and Jessica Martin, Nathan and Mark Hovermale, Erin and Ryan Hovermale, Adam Hovermale, Sally Highly, Eric and Jacob Hovermale, Bridgette Boswell, Jon, Wes, Cal and Ali Mann, Ember and Edith Kidd; several great grandchildren.

The Celebration of Mary’s life will be held at 1pm, Friday, February 8, 2019 in Converse Church of Christ, 301 East Wabash, Converse with Revs. Jim Otis and Nick Smith officiating. Visitation will be held from 4pm-8pm, Thursday, February 7, 2019 in the church.
