Martha Helen Shepler, 101, of Wabash, Indiana, died at 7:26 am, Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at Wellbrooke of Wabash. She was born on February 11, 1922, in Wabash, to Morton and Edna (Jones) VanRoe.
Martha was a 1940 graduate of Wabash High School. She married Wilbur “Roy” Shepler in Wabash on July 29, 1940; he died September 28, 2019. She worked 27 years for Sears, in both the store and the catalog department, retiring in 1981. Martha was a member of the Wabash Church of the Brethren, and loved participating in church activities with the women of the church. She enjoyed sewing, making clothes and quilts, traveling and camping. She visited 49 states, Canada, and Mexico.
She is survived by three children, Beverly (Donald) Richardson of North Manchester, Indiana, Jerry LeRoy (Peggy) Shepler of Wabash, and Vicki Warner of Fort Wayne, Indiana; ten grandchildren, Scott (Judy) Richardson of Wabash, Jeff (Dawn) Richardson of Cicero, Indiana, Candi (Clary) Eltzroth of North Manchester, Stacy (Ann) Shepler of Wabash, Travis (Angie) Shepler of North Manchester, Brad (Shelley) Shepler, Cory (Jamie) Shepler, and Richard Shepler, all of Wabash, Jennifer (Ian) Hope of Morgantown, West Virginia, and Jarrod Colvin of Wabash; 15 great grandchildren, and several great great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents, son, Richard Lee Shepler, great-grandchild, Dustin Shepler, and brother, Robert VanRoe.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Monday, May 1, 2023, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash with Pastor Evan Strong officiating. Burial will be in Friends Cemetery, Wabash. Friends may call 12:30 – 2:00 pm Monday, at the funeral home.
Preferred memorial is Wabash Church of the Brethren.
