Martha Ann Alverson Pearson

Despite heavy hearts and earthly grieving, we joyously announce that at 6:34 am on August 18, 2022, Martha Ann Alverson Pearson, 88, of Marion, Indiana, went peacefully, with family at her side, to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Undoubtedly, she also had a joyous reunion with her identical twin sister, Mary Nan Alverson Bean, who preceded her in death on August 8, 2021. It is fitting that Martha went to be with the Lord in the early hours of the morning as this was her favorite time of the day to meet with Him in her devotions.

Martha was born on November 1, 1933, in Piedmont, South Carolina, to Orean Broadus and Ollie May (Green) Alverson. She married Martin Phillip “Phil” Pearson on April 6, 1955, in Westfield, Indiana, while they were attending Marion College. She eventually finished her formal education graduating Cum Laude at University of Michigan-Flint with a B.S. in Elementary Education and a minor in Social Work. She worked for many years as a social worker in Grant County (Marion, Indiana), where she was known and loved by many. She was also an active member of Brown Street Wesleyan Church, where she was the president of the Women’s Missionary Society, enjoyed singing in the church choir, and coached the Teen Bible Quiz Team. She was also an active member at College Wesleyan Church in Marion, Indiana.

Surviving are her loving husband of 67 years, Phil; two children, Mary Joan “Joni” Pearson (Ron) Campbell and Steven Phillip (Karen) Pearson; five grandchildren, Ryan (Connie) Campbell, Angela Campbell (Jasper) Sheffer, Gabriel (Jessi) Campbell, Heidi Pearson (Tyler) Sugden, and Sarah Pearson (Joshua) Chadd; and 12 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive visitors from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon on Monday, August 22, 2022, at College Wesleyan Church, 200 E. 38th St., Marion, IN.

Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Martha’s life will begin at 12:00 noon. Burial will take place at Grant Memorial Park at a later date.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
