Madonna J. Hecox

Madonna J. Hecox, 91, Swayzee, passed away at 4:42 pm on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at Century Villa Health Care & Rehabilitation in Greentown. She was born in Van Buren, Indiana, on Friday, January 22, 1932, to Brainerd A. and Mary Jane (Neal) Losure.  On August 17, 1950, she married Hugh Hecox, and he preceded her in death on March 3, 1996.  

Madonna graduated from Marion High School and was a cook for many years at Swayzee Café, Swayzee Steakhouse, and Chism’s Corner. She was a member of The Eastern Woodland Carvers Club in Converse.

Madonna enjoyed wood burning and solving crossword and word search puzzles. She also loved playing cards with her family at holidays and gatherings. More than anything, Madonna appreciated her time with her family.  

Survivors include her son, John (Marcia) Hecox of Swayzee; grandson, Joshua R. (Brooke) Hecox of Wabash; granddaughter, Ashley L. (Wade) Tully of North Manchester; great-granddaughters, Madison Hecox and Teraka Tully; great-grandson, Ryan Tully; brother, Donald Losure of FL; and several nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; step-mother, Basha Mae Losure; son, Tommy L. Hecox; daughter-in-law, Tracy Jean Hecox; brother, Neal Losure; step-sisters, Jackie Johnson and Bobbie Coon; and several beloved dogs.

The family will have a graveside service for Madonna at 10:00 am on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at Thrailkill Cemetery in Swayzee. Pastor Fredrick Hearn will be officiating.
