Laura Kaye (Johnson) Knight

Laura Kaye (Johnson) Knight, 78, Marion, passed away at 9:15 am on Saturday, July 8, 2023, in her home. She was born in Anderson, Indiana, on Monday, June 4, 1945, to William “Bill” and Ruth (Turner) Johnson.  She was married to Willie James Knight, Jr., who survives.  

Laura graduated from Anderson High School and worked in the nursing division for 46 years with VA Northern Indiana Health Care System. She accepted Christ at an early age. She loved to crochet, hang wallpaper, and do interior decorating. She also loved being outside, especially planting flowers. Laura was an avid reader and particularly enjoyed reading James Patterson’s books.  She loved watching movies and various shows, especially Murder She Wrote. Laura enjoyed talking on the phone and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

In addition to her loving husband, survivors include her children, Angela (Bennie) Knight-Blackmon, Maurice Lamar Knight, Sr., Casandra E. Knight-Drake, and Allen Fitzgerald Harrington; sister, Cheryl Ann Abram; special grandson, Zi’Varre Knight; grandchildren, Bennie Blackmon, III, Arthur Drake, II, Julian Knight, Ar’tez Drake, Ar’tisa Drake, Maurice Lamar Knight, Jr., Jaiden M. Greer, Destyne Sha Knight, Ar’twaun Drake, Dymun Kaye Knight, Martrell Lamont Knight, and Markece La-coda Knight; 19 great-grandchildren; special nieces, Lisa Johnson-Jones, Tracie Johnson, and Marketta (Jo Jo) Abram; several nieces and nephews; and special co-workers from the VA.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, William David Johnson, Bruce Wayne Johnson, and Myron Paul Johnson; niece, Tameka Jo Johnson; and nephews, David Johnson and Joseph Johnson.

The family will receive visitors from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturday, July 22, 2023, at Trinity Victory Baptist Church, 2001 S. Gallatin St., Marion, IN.

Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Laura’s life will begin at 1:00 pm with Rev. Stanford Bolden officiating.  Burial will take place at Grant Memorial Park.
