Larry Joe Velasquez, 80, of Marion, passed away at 4:52 am on Friday, December 17, 2021, at St. Vincent Hospital and Health Services in Indianapolis. He was born in Fairmount, on April 7, 1941, to Cipriano and Maria (Correa) Velasquez. He married his loving wife of 62 years, Janice Kay Miller, and she survives.
Larry graduated from Marion High School and attended Butler University. He owned LV Trucking in Indianapolis and went on to work at Allison Transmission in Indianapolis. He transferred to Delco Electronics in Kokomo, where he worked until his retirement. Larry was a very active member and volunteer at St. Paul Catholic Church. He was an avid sports fan and motor racing enthusiast. He enjoyed seeing his grandchildren, especially at their sporting events.
Survivors include his wife, Janice; daughters, Belinda Velasquez of Carmel, Brenda Rappaport of Raleigh, NC, and Rhonda Suzanne Velasquez of Benson, AZ; sons, Brian (Katherine) Velasquez of Lafayette and Greg (Stephanie) Velasquez of Anniston, AL; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Louise Futrell of Marion and Mary Ellen Carmen of Carmel; brother, Danny (Ruth) Velasquez of Marion; sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Velasquez; several nieces and nephews; and his cat, Booger.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Albert Velasquez, Pete Velasquez, Lupe Velasquez, and Raymond R. Velasquez; and sisters, Josephine J. Knight, Mercedes Velasquez, and Connie Gause.
The family will receive visitors from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Sunday, December 19, 2021, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
A Funeral Mass to celebrate Larry’s life will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, December 20, 2021, at St. Paul Catholic Church, 1031 W. Kem Rd., Marion, IN. Father Ted Rothrock will be officiating with burial following at Gardens of Memory in Marion.
The family is requesting that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the St. Paul Catholic School Scholarship, 1031 W. Kem Rd., Marion, IN 46952.
