Lance Schuyler Steffen, 79, of North Manchester, IN, and formerly of Huntington, IN, passed away on Saturday, July 28, 2018, at 7:35 p.m. at Peabody Retirement Community in North Manchester, IN.
Lance was born on November 26, 1938, in Wabash, IN, to Oscar Fredrick and Fanchon (Bitner) Steffen. His parents preceded him in death.
Mr. Steffen was a graduate of Bippus High School, Class of 1957. He was employed with Verizon Communications fulltime for 39 years plus eight years of part time service prior to his retirement. His time at Verizon put him on assignment in the Republic of Panama and the Kingdom of Arabia. Lance was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Huntington and he served as Cantor, Lector, Commentator, Liturgical Choir, Funeral Choir and the “Over 50 Singers”, a group which he helped establish. He was also a member of 3rd degree Knights of Columbus, Verizon Employee Club and the Mercedes-Benz Club of North America.
Mr. Steffen is survived by many cousins and close friends.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, August 1, 2018, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at McElhaney – Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson St., Huntington, IN.
Additional calling hours will be prior to the Mass on Thursday, August, 2, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 860 Cherry Street, Huntington, IN.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am. at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 860 Cherry Street, Huntington, IN.
A private burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Huntington, IN, at a later date.
