Kenneth L. Ellis

Kenneth L. Ellis, 93, Gas City, passed away at 5:30 pm on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at Marion Health. He was born in Frankfort, Kentucky, on Wednesday, December 3, 1930, to Otto and Mary (Glass) Ellis.  On September 13, 1950, he married Marsha Ann Poor who preceded him on August 21, 2018.  

Kenneth graduated from Gas City High School and was a member of First Baptist Church – Gas City. He served as a police officer in Gas City for 20 years, including FOP Chief of Police. He also worked at Owens and sold Nationwide Insurance. He was a coin and baseball card collector. He loved watching baseball. He spent many years researching the Ellis family history.

Survivors include his daughter, Deborah (Bill) Hunnicutt of Marion; son, Kenneth Randall (Dedra) Ellis; great-granddaughter, McKenna Nicole Muncy; great great-grandson, Koltyn Downam; great great-granddaughter, Hadley Bragg; special nephew, Andy Ellis; and special niece, Mary Ellis.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Mary Lucille Ellis; wife, Marsha Ann Ellis; grandson, Ryan Mitchell Muncy; and brothers, William Ellis, and James Ellis.

The family will receive visitors from 9:30 am to 11:30 am on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St, Gas City, IN.

Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Kenneth’s life will begin at 11:30 am with Pastor Mick Simpkins officiating.  Burial will take place at Marion National Cemetery.

The family would like to give a special “thank you” to Sherry Messler, Sharon Tidwell, and Jeannette Messler for their excellent support and care during this time.
