Kathryn “Kathy” A. Carder


Kathryn “Kathy” A. Carder, 75, Marion, went to be with the Lord at 5:05 pm on Wednesday, December 30, 2020, at Colonial Oaks Health & Rehabilitation Center in Marion. She was born in Marion, Indiana, on Monday, July 23, 1945, to Charles E. and Alice (Snyder) Carder.

Kathy graduated from Fairmount High School. She continued her education at Indiana Wesleyan University and then at Manchester University, where she graduated in 1969. She worked 40 years for the State of Indiana Welfare Department.

She was a member of CARE and had sponsored many children overseas. She was also a member of First United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, led women’s workshops, was a member of Social Concern Community, leader of Stephen Ministry, and the previous chairman of the worship community. Kathy loved writing, especially poetry, and had published two devotionals for the church website. Some hobbies she enjoyed were bird watching and needlepoint.

Survivors include her brother, David (Rhea) Carder of Marion; sisters, Nancy Carder and Martha Hardesty; nephew, Seth Hardesty; and cousins, Sharon (David) Vreugdenhil, Jon (Greta) McCormick, Stephen Hawkins, Ken Hawkins, and Dennis Hawkins.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

The family will receive visitors from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon on Thursday, January 7, 2021, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.

Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Kathy’s life will begin at 12:00 noon. Burial will take place at Grant Memorial Park.
