Juanita Joanne Wade

Juanita Joanne Wade, 95, Marion, passed away at 11:14 pm on Thursday, August 4, 2022, at Colonial Oaks Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Marion, Indiana, on Sunday, April 3, 1927, to George and Mary (Pickard) Hall.

Joanne graduated from Marion High School in 1945 and entered commercial office work. She was then hired by the VA Hospital in 1947 where she remained for over 34 years of service, taking time off occasionally to raise her young children, until her retirement in 1992 as a personnel management specialist.

In 1954, she married James C. Wade and had two sons and a daughter. She remained married until her husband’s death in 1996.

Joanne was a life-long resident of Marion and a long-time member of First Presbyterian Church of Grant County. She enjoyed spending time with her family and reading fiction.

Joanne had the rare gift of helps. Whether a family member, friend, or acquaintance, she was always willing to invest her time and resources into helping those who needed it, often assisting many people at once, and doing so without ever neglecting the needs of her immediate family. Her love for her children was absolute, unconditional, and passionate.

She is survived by those children, Richard J. Wade and Stephen H. Wade both of Marion, Suzanne E. (Sheldon) Phelps of Zionsville; grandson, Zachary A. Phelps of Zionsville; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, George Richard Hall, and her life-long best friend, Jacquie Mauk.

The family will receive visitors from 12 noon to 1:00 pm on Saturday, August 13, 2022, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN.
