John William Moon

John William Moon, Jr., 84, Marion, went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 7, 2018, at Wesleyan Health and Rehabilitation Center.  He was born on September 7, 1933, in a log cabin in Paoli, Indiana, to the late John W. and Lula (McGraw) Moon.

As a child, John’s family moved to Fairmount, where he grew up and graduated from Fairmount High School.  He worked at Delco-Remy, Kokomo, and married Carolyn Sue Abney in 1955.  That same year, John enlisted in the Army and moved to Washington.  Upon completion of his military service, John moved back to Indiana and worked at the steel mill in Kokomo.

After both John and Carolyn received Jesus Christ as their personal Savior, John moved his family to Ohio, where he attended Mt. Vernon Bible College.  Following graduation, he pastored several Foursquare Gospel churches in various states.  He had a heart for missions and sent money to India to build and support new churches.  He also took several trips to India to preach the gospel.

In addition, he served as Chaplain for the Center Township Fire Department and for the Grant County Mutual Aid Association. John loved studying the Bible, enjoyed home remodeling, gardening, taking long walks, playing Euchre, and watching the Colts.

Survivors include two daughters, Kathy (Louie) Treon and Dianna (Richard) Talbott, both from Marion; five grandsons, Robert and Johnnathan Treon, along with Walter, Richard, Jr., and Michael Talbott; six great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Carl and Charles Moon; and two sisters, Elizabeth Laypoole and Susan Fultz.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn; baby daughter, Jane Alice; five brothers, Donald, Herschel, Anthony, Jerry, and Edward; and four sisters, Lerabelle, Rose, Evelyn, and Margie.

The family will receive visitors from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with John’s funeral service beginning at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, May 11, 2018, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.  Pastor Joe Ruberg will be officiating with burial following at Marion National Cemetery.
