John W. Canvin

John W. Canvin, age 65, of Huntington, died at 1:50 a.m. Monday, March 26, 2018 at Indiana University Health University Hospital in Indianapolis.

Visitation will be from 3 – 7 p.m. Friday, March 30, 2018 at Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 West Park Drive, Huntington, Indiana. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 31, 2018 at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, 648 North LaFontaine Street, Huntington, Indiana with Rev. Timothy Lorenz officiating. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service. Burial will be in Star of Hope Cemetery in Huntington County.

Preferred memorials are to St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church or Police Athletic League, in care of Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 West Park Drive, Huntington, Indiana, 46750.

John was born on July 8, 1952 in Huntington, the son of Harold and Irene (Baade) Canvin. He was a 1970 graduate of Huntington North High School and married Janet Kline on April 6, 1974 in Huntington. John worked at both Noll Printing in Huntington at Mignone/EP Graphics in Berne for a total of 47 years. He was a reserve police officer for the City of Huntington for 21 years and a member of St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church. He loved fishing and spending time with his grandchildren at the family’s Loon Lake cottage. He enjoyed following the weather, watching The Andy Griffith Show, and mowing the lawn.

Surviving in Huntington are his wife of 44 years, Janet Canvin, a son John (Kristina) Canvin II, a daughter, Jennifer (John) Gunn, a brother, Ron (Cheryl) Canvin, and four grandchildren, Keaton Kline, Jase Gunn, Kristian Kline, and Lane Canvin. His parents, a sister, Linda Canvin, and a brother, Mark Canvin, precede him in death.
