John Richard Hoff

John Richard Hoff, 79, formally of Peru, Indiana stepped into the loving arms of his Savior Jesus Christ at 4:45am on September 21, 2018 in Cassopolis, Michigan with family and loved ones gathered around him.

John was born in Miami County, Indiana on October 9, 1938 to Harold Robert & Frances Lucille (Ege) Hoff. He is preceded in death by his parents and wife.

He married his high school sweetheart Judith Arlene Johnson on February 22, 1959 with whom he celebrated 58 years of marriage. He is survived by sons; Jeffrey A. (wife Margie) of New Hope, MN, James R. of Cassopolis, MI, Jason P. (wife Dana) of New Waverly, IN, and John K. of Cassopolis, MI; grandchildren Elizabeth Kallestad, New Hope, MN, Christopher Hoff, Crystal, MN, Amanda Hoff, South Bend, IN, Daniel Copeland (wife Kayla), Wabash, IN, Jason M. and Dylan Hoff, Peru, IN, Cody and Alec Hoff, Cassopolis, MI; great-grandchildren Savanna Kallestad, Colleyville, TX and Hayden Copeland, Wabash, IN; brother Robert L. Hoff, Peru, IN, sister Edna M. Pearce, Colorado Springs, CO; former daughters-in-law Della Barr (Bill), Peru, IN, and Carmen Hewitt (Dave), Elkhart, IN.

John served 12 years in the Indiana National Guard. He was a professional meat cutter and processed game for hunters and winter stock for farmers in and around Peru. He also worked for General Tire, 4H Fairgrounds caretaker, Mississinewa Reservoir maintenance and Peru High School custodian. John was hard working all his life from shoveling coal, working honey bees, painting barns, plumber’s assistant, carpentry, drywall, and anything else that was required to provide for his wife and children.

John enjoyed archery, whittling, crafting fishing flies, hunting, fishing and sharing his love for the outdoors with his family and friends.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Chapel of Praise Children’s Ministries.

Viewing is on Thursday, September 27, 2018 from 9am – 11am at the Chapel of Praise in Peru, Indiana with the funeral immediately following. Pastor Marie Thompson will officiate.  A private burial will be at the Reyburn Cemetery in Peru, IN.
