John Eugene “Rusty” Reust

John Eugene “Rusty” Reust, 94, of Huntington, IN, passed away on Wednesday, October 24, 2018, at 3:12 p.m. at Visiting Nurse & Hospice, Fort Wayne, IN.

Mr. Reust was born on June 2, 1924, in Huntington, IN, to Joseph and Cecilia (Nuck) Reust. His parents preceded him in death.  He married Velma Hunt on September 16, 1953, in Fort Wayne, IN.  Velma preceded him in death on January 22, 2018.

Mr. Reust was a 1943 Huntington High School graduate.  He served in the United States Navy on the USS Cincinnati during WWII.   He worked at Ray’s Bike Shop, owned J & R Locksmith and worked also at Bircraft.  He was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, and a life member of VFW #2689.

John is survived by one son, Dan Reust, Huntington, IN; three daughters, Carol (Richard) Fankhauser, Logan, NM, Peggy Buis, Venice, FL, Linda (Robert) Caley, Markle, IN; and one sister, Phyllis (George) Ness, Huntington, IN.  He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Along with his parents and wife he was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond Reust and Leonard “Mike” Reust; and four sisters, Collette Weist, Josephine Kaylor, Julie Martin and Lori McClure.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, October 26, 2018, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN.

Additional calling hours will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

Following calling hours a Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN, with Fr. Tony Steinacker presiding.

Burial with Military honors will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Huntington, IN.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church and/or Visiting Nurse & Hospice in care of McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN, 46750.
