John E. Moriarity, Jr.

John E. Moriarity, Jr., 50, Marion, passed away at 4:33 a.m. on Friday, August 31, 2018, at Marion General Hospital.  He was born in Marion to John E. Moriarity, Sr., and Joy (Byrd) Moriarity on September 23, 1967.

John was a 1986 graduate of Marion High School.  He was an accomplished auto body mechanic, doing work on vehicles for CARE Auto Auction.  He also enjoyed restoring and selling his own classic cars.  He was well-known for his unmatched wit and his light-hearted teasing.  He loved pulling pranks on mostly unwilling participants.  He enjoyed watching wildlife that wandered into his yard and always had a house filled with cats.

He is survived by his parents, John (Becky) Moriarity, Marion, Joy Moriarity and Ramon David, Holland, Michigan; sisters, Debbie (Bob) McElheny, Gas City, Angie (Ed) Simison, Marion, Shelly (Paul) Berggoetz, Zeeland, Michigan, Candi (Rob) Munson, Bellingham, Washington, Cheri David, Holland, Michigan, and Holly Moriarity, Albuquerque, New Mexico; brother, Ramon (Jessica) David, Holland, Michigan; 17 nieces and nephews; and special friend, Amber Mills.

Preceding him in death were his paternal grandparents, Orville Moriarity and Penny Anderson; maternal grandparents, Artie Byrd and Ray (Louise) Byrd; beloved wife, Jody; and son, Preston.

The family will receive visitors from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, September 6, 2018, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN.

Immediately following the time of visitation, John’s funeral service will begin at 6 p.m. with Pastor Dan Heincker officiating.
