John D. Boxell

John D. Boxell, 73, Marion, passed away at 2:08 am on Thursday, April 20, 2023, at Marion Health. He was born in Marion, Indiana, on Saturday, August 20, 1949, to Corey and Beatrice (Wysong) Boxell.  He married his loving wife, Kathy (Silcock) Boxell, on September 5, 1981.  

John was a 1968 graduate of Eastbrook High School.  He served in the United States Army and, following his honorable discharge, worked at the VA Northern Indiana Health Care System, where he was a nursing assistant for 28 years.  In 2002, he proudly received the Hands and Heart Award from the VA.  He retired six years later in 2008.  John was a member of VFW Post #60 and American Legion Post #10.

In his younger years, John was a diesel mechanic.  He loved riding his bicycle, camping, taking pictures, and classic cars.  He also liked driving and was an avid traveler.  John loved his family, as well as his dogs and granddogs.

Survivors include his wife, Kathy Boxell of Marion; sons, Corey (Stacey) Boxell of Wilkesboro, NC, and Danny (Elizabeth) Boxell of South Bend; sister, Elizabeth (JR) Rumple of Gas City; granddaughter, Brie of Rochester, NY; grandsons, Cameron, William, and Jack, all of South Bend; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and nephew, Terry Rumple.

The family will receive visitors from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.

Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate John’s life will begin at 1:00 pm with Pastor Wesley Rediger officiating.  Burial will take place at Van Buren Cemetery.
