John A. Clayborn

John A. Clayborn, 99, Warren, passed away at 8:40 am on Saturday, May 22, 2021, at Heritage Pointe in Warren. He was born in Limestone, Arkansas, on Thursday, May 4, 1922, to the late William and Ora (Casey) Clayborn. On July 6, 1944, he married Daisy McCracken, and she preceded him in death in 1983. On July 10, 1985, he married Jacqueline Huffman, and she preceded him in death on October 14, 2011.

John was a U.S.Army veteran, who served in the 505th Airborne Anti-Aircraft Gunnery Battalion in the Pacific Theater of World War II. He received the American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon w/1 Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, and Victory Medal. Following his military service, he worked at Anaconda Wire and Cable for 38 years. He was a Shriner, a member of Eastern Star, Scottish Rite, American Legion (Huntington), and First Baptist Church (Warren), as well as Mason (Past Master) of Mt. Etna Lodge #333. John had also volunteered at MGH for many years.

John enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and then canning and freezing the food for which he had worked hard. He especially loved spending time with his family.

Survivors include daughters, Janet Catherine (Dan) Moriarity of Warren and Amy Kathleen Clayborn of Marion; brother, U.R. Clayborn of Converse; sister, Billie Jo Enslin of Ft. Myers, FL; grandchildren, Amber (Clarence) Holmes of Marion, Russell Moriarity of Uniondale, and Catherine (Kyle) Konz of Fort Wayne; great-grandchildren, Katelyn Smithson, Danielle Hensley, Sabrina Anderson, Oliver Konz, and Alice Konz; and daughters-in-law, Paula Clayborn of Marion and Lora Clayborn of Jonesboro.

He was also preceded in death by sons, John Weston Clayborn and Roy Daniel Clayborn; daughter, Sharon Elizabeth Clayborn; grandsons, Garry Clayborn, Daniel Clayborn, and Steven Clayborn; granddaughter, Kristy Clayborn; brothers, Roy E. (Jean) Clayborn, Wilburn Clayborn, Leonard Clayborn, and Lloyd Clayborn; and sisters, Artie Curtis and Effie Clayborn.

Visitation is from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, May 26, 2021, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.

John’s funeral service will begin at 10:00 am on Thursday, May 27, 2021, at the funeral home. Pastor Russell Stickler will be officiating with burial taking place at Thrailkill Cemetery.
