Joe Reed Smith

Joe Reed Smith, 78, Marion, went to be with the Lord at 10:46 p.m. on Monday, July 23, 2018, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.  He was born in Cave City, Arkansas, to the late Corbet Ray and Wilma (Rose) Smith.  On February 24, 1979, Joe married Charlotte Duvall, and she survives.

Joe was the owner of Smith Auto Sales and he retired in 1999.  He attended Brookhaven Wesleyan Church.

Sports were a big part of Joe’s life.  He was an avid NASCAR fan, especially following Dale Earnhardt, Sr., as well as Dale, Jr..  He liked watching fast pitch softball and was a big IU basketball fan.  Joe also loved his cars and truck and he was very meticulous about keeping them clean.

He will be missed by his loving wife, Charlotte, Marion; children, Kevin (Brittanie Stapleton) Smith, Marion, Joseph Blake (Cheri Cummings) Smith, Noblesville; step-sons, David Samples, Cincinnati, Ohio, Roger (Olivia) Goodman, Marion; grandchildren, Shelby (Cory) Fields, Marion, Chelsea (Alex Davis) Burnsworth, Fort Wayne, Cameron and Taryn Smith, Noblesville, Leland Smith, Marion; great-grandson, Rowan Fields; several step-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Bea Smith, Tuckerman, Arkansas; brothers, Corbet (Dean) Smith, Greers Ferry, Arkansas, Don (Donnie) Smith, Searcy, Arkansas; sister, Nadene Brower, Hernandes, Mississippi; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Also preceding him in death were his brother, Bill Smith and brother-in-law, James Brower.

The family will receive visitors from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, July 27, 2018, at Brookhaven Wesleyan Church, 2960 E. 38th St., Marion, IN.

Services to celebrate Joe’s life will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 28, 2018, at the church with Rev. Joseph Duvall, Pastor Joel Gearhart and Pastor Bob Van Cise officiating.  Burial will follow at Grant Memorial Park.

Arrangements are entrusted to Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Brookhaven Children’s Ministry or Ohio Christian University, c/o Charles and Lillian Duvall Scholarship Fund.
