Joan B. Heath, 92, Marion, passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at Wesleyan Health Care & Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Gas City, Indiana, on October 22, 1931, to Louis and Vera (Brown) Schmidt.
She worked 28 years at Owens-Illinois. She worked and served at Genesis House. She was a member of First Assembly of God in Marion then later was a member of Calvary Church of God. Joan was a devoted Christian lady. She loved being active in the church and assisting in Sunday School. Joan enjoyed playing the piano. She was active in nursing home ministry. Joan had quite the hat collection and was known as, “Hat Lady” because of it. She loved crocheting, she crocheted her hat collection, in fact. She loved her children, grandchildren, the church and God.
Survivors include her children, Veronica (Michael) Eller, Lola (Steve) Bell and Bruce Berry; grandchildren, Kristin Smith, Lucas Eller, Nathan Eller, and Hannah Rutigliano; and siblings, Bonnie Gerber and Gene Schmidt.
She was preceded in death by parents; two brothers, Dale (Clarice) Schmidt and M. Wayne (Carolyn) Schmidt; and son, Jeffrey L Berry.
The family will receive visitors from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Monday, March 4, 2024, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St, Gas City, IN.
Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Joan’s life will begin at 1:00 pm. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery.
