Jean Hulce

Jean Hulce, 96, passed away on April 20, 2021, at the Josie Harper Hospice House in Omaha, Nebraska.

Miss Jean would be the first to tell you that she had a good life. An identical triplet born in Marion, IN, on September 23, 1924, one of her sisters did not survive infancy. Growing up under the watchful eyes of Grandma Hinkle, Jean and her sister, Betty, were as thick as thieves. A Marion High School graduate, she worked as a telephone operator until marrying her husband of fifty-six years, Dick, in 1947. With Dick and a growing family, she lived in Nutley, NJ; Cedar Rapids, IA; Antananarivo, Madagascar; and Towson, MD. Residing in Towson for a total of fifty years, in Loch Raven Village she was known as the mayor of Pleasant Plains Road.

She loved baseball, yelling for her Cubs, and keeping box scores by the radio as a little girl. She enjoyed many seasons of Orioles ball, especially at old Memorial Stadium.

Always one to see the glass half-full, Jean was a strong, politically active woman who rose to life’s challenges again and again. She greeted old age with grace, moving to Bennington, NE, in 2013 to be near family, enjoying many activities at her retirement community and an occasional crab cake imported from her favorite Baltimore restaurant.

Jean is survived by sons, Richard (Leisha) Hulce of Owings, MD; Martin (Karen) Hulce of Omaha, NE; and David (Jennifer) Hulce of Bellefonte, PA; step-granddaughter, Jill (Andrew) Reynolds; step-great-granddaughters, Hannah, Rachel, and Sarah Reynolds; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard L. Hulce; parents, Perley (Matilda) Wilson; beloved grandmother, Almira Hinkle; daughter, Ferol Frazee; grandson, Noah Westervelt; step-grandson, Barry Schmeichel; sisters, Tillie Mae McNutt, Ruth Wilson, and Betty Stinnett; and brother, Ralph Wilson.

The family will receive visitors from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Monday, May 3, 2021, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
