Jay F. Marley

Jay F. Marley, 85, of Gas City, passed away at 5:15 pm on Monday, June 27, 2022, at Wesleyan Health Care & Rehabilitation Center in Marion. He was born in Hartford City on September 10, 1936, to Elmer and Edith (Garner) Marley. On August 3, 1957, he married Donna J. Holdren, and she preceded him in death on May 9, 2021.

Jay graduated from Fairmount High School and served in the United States Air Force. Following his military service, Jay worked as a forklift mechanic for over 40 years at RCA. He was a member of Lighthouse Assembly of God Church. 

Jay was an avid IU basketball and Indianapolis Colts fan. He was a hard worker who was dedicated to his family. He enjoyed taking his family on annual trips to Nashville. More than anything, Jay was a proud believer in Christ and was dedicated to his church.

Survivors include his son, Douglas Jay (Cheryl) Marley of Greenwood; Daughter, Gayle Ann (Carl Markland) Helmkamp of Gas City; granddaughters, Angela (Todd) Thomas of Fairmount and Rachel (Tony) Beaman of Greenwood; grandsons, Daniel Sparks of Ft. Walton, FL, Timothy (Julia) Sparks of Nashville, TN, and Malcolm (Samantha Redman) Kalugyer of Indianapolis; great-grandsons, Joey Taylor, Nathan Beaman, Rhett Sparks, and Miles Beaman; great-granddaughters, Mallory Taylor and Emma Beaman; sister, Jill (Lewis) Shelton; and several nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Elmer E. “Jay” Marley; mother, Edith J. Marley; wife, Donna J. Marley; daughter, Lita Jane Marley; and brother, Ronnie Marley.

The family will receive visitors from 10 am to 12 pm on Saturday, July 2, 2022 at Lighthouse Assembly of God, 5909 S. Jay St., Marion, IN 46953.

Immediately following the time of visitation, a funeral service to celebrate Jay’s life will begin at 12 pm with Pastor Jerry Gallaway officiating. Burial will take place at Park Cemetery in Fairmount.
