Janet L. Sweet

Janet L. Sweet, 86, of Wabash, Indiana, died at 4:30 am, Wednesday, August 30, 2023, at her home.  She was born on November 20, 1936, in Wabash, to Joseph L. and Ruth L. (Lee) Stouffer.

Janet was a 1954 graduate and the Valedictorian of Noble High School, and received her Associates Degree in Nursing from Indiana University Kokomo.  She married Robert L. Sweet at the Wabash Friends Church on September 23, 1955; he died on July 15, 2008. She was a registered nurse at the Wabash County Hospital, retiring after 35 years. Janet was a longtime member of the Wabash Friends Church and volunteered at 85 Hope. She spent many springs at Redington Shores, Florida, shelling and enjoying the sun with her husband, Bob. Janet loved reading, playing cards, telling stories, spoiling her family and dogs and making chocolate chip cookies at Christmas for family. She had a generous heart.  

She is survived by five children, Rose Wenrich of Wabash, Doug (Sunali) Sweet of Fishers, Indiana, Lori (Gary) Miller of Wabash, Mike (Alice) Sweet of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Lisa (Matt) Kinsey of Wabash; eight grandchildren, Emily (Jonathan) Davidson of Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin, Zachary Wenrich of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Neil (Courtney) Miller, Madison (R.J.) Waldon, and Jessica Miller, all of Wabash, Natasha Sweet of Indianapolis, Indiana, Jasmine (Dillon) Fallis of Denver, Colorado, and Jesse (Nina Biasi) Sweet of Indianapolis; four great grandchildren, Benjamin Davidson, Elijah Long, Finn Davidson, and Aubrey Miller; brother William (Ellen) Stouffer of Wabash; and two sisters, Bette Brane of Markle, Indiana, and Jody (Dan) LaSalle of Wabash. She was also preceded in death by her parents, son-in-law, Jim Wenrich, and her grandchildren, Lane and Matthew Miller.

Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Saturday, September 2, 2023, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, with David Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Mississinewa Memorial Cemetery, Somerset, Indiana.  Friends may call 4-7 pm Friday, and 9-10 am Saturday, at the funeral home.
