James Richard Delph

James Richard Delph, 80, of Marion, Indiana, passed away on April 10, 2023, surrounded by his family.

James, fondly known as “Jimmy” to some and “Richard” to others, was born in Kayjay, Kentucky, to Douglas Raymond and Josie (Fain) Delph, on April 5, 1943. He was a skinny, good-natured kid who loved to fish and garden but, most of all, loved to help others.

Jim met Loretta Stepp in 1978. They were soon inseparable and spent 45 years together in Marion, Indiana. He came into his step-childrens’ lives when they were young children, but they quickly formed an unbreakable bond. He was their number one fan, always there to offer his love, support, and encouragement.

Jim moved from Kentucky as a young man.  He began working and retired from Foster-Forbes. He will forever live in our memories and in the memories of all whose lives he has touched.

He is survived by his loving wife, Loretta Delph; three step-daughters, Tammy (Ron) Alwine, Pamela Clem, and Angela (Michael) Vaughn; six grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; four sisters; and one brother.

He was preceded in death by his loving parents, three brothers, and one step-daughter.

The family will receive visitors from 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm on Monday, April 17, 2023, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.

Immediately following the time of visitation, a funeral service for Jim will begin at 2:00 pm.  Rev. David Miller will be officiating with entombment taking place at Gardens of Memory in Marion.
