James L. Monts, age 88, of Clayton, (formerly of Marion), went to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 15, 2023.
James was born on May 19, 1935, in West Terre Haute, Indiana, the son of the late Jesse and Gertrude (Goss) Monts. He graduated from Sweetser High School in 1953. On June 6, 1954, he married Anna Easter, and she preceded him in death on July 24, 2008.
James worked at General Tire for 30 years, Hankins Container for two years and for Lininger for 10+ years. He was a long-time member of Sunnycrest United Methodist Church. He loved spending time golfing, fishing, traveling, and time with family.
Survivors include, daughters, Cindy (Gary) Thatcher of Defiance, Ohio, Brenda (Tom) Kenworthy of Clayton, Indiana , Dawn (Don) Wolf of Marion, and Elaine Parker of Clayton; sons, Greg (Julia) Monts of Noblesville, and Franklin (Debbie) Monts of Mooresville; siblings, Rose Whitton (Jack), Bill Monts, Ted Monts, Bob Monts, Sue Stepler (Gary), and Wanda Stepler; 17 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by siblings, Patty Nelson, Ralph Monts, Betty Pence and Donnie Monts.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 18, 2023 at Raven Choate Robinson Funeral Home, 1202 W. Kem Road, Marion, Indiana. Visitation will also be held from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Monday, June 19, 2023 in the funeral home prior to the funeral service. Funeral Services will begin at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Jeff Timmons officiating.
Burial will immediately follow the funeral service in Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Marion (Huntington County), Indiana.
