James “Jim” Edward Watson

James “Jim” Edward Watson, 83, Swayzee, passed away at 5:55 pm on Sunday, October 29, 2023, at VA Northern Indiana Health Care System in Marion. He was born in Kokomo, Indiana, on Sunday, October 27, 1940, to James and Nelle (Howell) Watson.  On December 15, 1990, he married Lori Coller, and she survives.  

Jim graduated from Van Buren High School in 1958 and attended Purdue University. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force.  Following his military service, he was Chief of Walnut Grove Volunteer Fire Department in California for 20 years.  He also oversaw the building of homes for Beck’s Construction in California. He was a member of Swayzee Community Church.

Jim liked playing football for the Air Force, as well as being outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He had the gift to listen and help others, and he loved the Lord and his church.

Additional survivors include his daughter, Piper Josephine of Olympia, WA; sister, Sue (Rich) Burmann of Marion; and several cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sons, Jimmy Watson and Todd Watson.

The family will receive visitors from 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm on Thursday, November 2, 2023, at Swayzee Community Church, P.O. Box 305, Swayzee, IN.

Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Jim’s life will begin at 2:00 pm with Pastor Jenni Debaun officiating.  Burial will take place at Grant Memorial Park.
