James “Jim” A. Sheedy

James “Jim” A. Sheedy, 83, Fairmount, joined his wife, Ruth Ann, and his parents, Glen and Garnet Sheedy, Sunday morning, September 16, 2018.  He was a 1952 graduate of Swayzee High School and a graduate of the Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati, where he studied piano tuning and technology.

On May 21, 1955, Jim married the love of his life, Ruth Ann Moorman.  With this union, he gained many brothers and sisters whom he loved and called his own.  Jim brought his love of music to many.  He played the piano, guitar, and banjo, along with many other instruments.  He worked at Hopkins Music Store and later opened a small music store in the home where he sold Gordon Laughhead pianos and band instruments.  Those who spent time with Jim and his family said there was always music and love within the Sheedy home.

Jim retired from Delco Electronics in Kokomo in 1991.  He loved photography, woodworking, ham radio, gardening, farming, and his border collies, Bob and Beau.  He loved taking trips to Canada and Alaska, as well as going to the Grand Ole Opry.  More important, he loved leading the singing, sharing the word of Christ, and worshiping at Rigdon Church of Christ.  His entire life, Jim touched many lives but none more than his son, Stephen, and his daughter, Debbie.  Jim came to love his helping hands when he himself needed a hand—Candi, Lisa, Jessica, and Mike of St. Vincent Home Healthcare and of which the Sheedy family is eternally grateful.

He is survived by his son, Stephen Sheedy, Fairmount; daughter, Deborah Sheedy, Indianapolis; sisters-in-law, Mary (Leland) Buroker, Westfield, Rosetta (Tom) Beck, Marion, Margaret Street, Marion, Nancy Jones, Pinellas Park, Florida, and Pauline Moorman, Converse; and brothers-in-law, Ralph (Rosemary) Moorman, Swayzee, Lee (Linda) Moorman, Bloomington, and Jim Stinger, Marion.

Preceding him in death were his sisters-in-law, Janet Stinger, Alice (Martin) Florek, and Pauline (Tom) Kratzer, and brother-in-law, Earl D. Moorman.

The family will receive visitors from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 20, 2018, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Rybolt Chapel, 314 N. Washington St., Swayzee, IN.

Services to celebrate Jim’s life will take place at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 21, 2018, at the funeral home with Minister Sam Miller officiating.  Burial will follow at Knox Chapel Cemetery.

Jim’s favorite verses were from II Timothy 4:7-8:  I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
