James E. Carter, 84, Marion, passed away at 9:30 am on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at Aperion Care in Marion. He was born in Calvert City, Kentucky, on Monday, December 26, 1938, to James and Gladys (Peck) Carter. He was married to Cora Velma (Brown) Carter, who preceded him in death.
James worked in Production at General Tire until his retirement. He loved fishing, taking long walks in the park, and shooting pool, which he was very good at! He also loved being a Jehovah’s Witness.
Survivors include his sons, Roy E. Carter of Sweetser, Troy J. (Marilyn) Carter of Marion, and Randall “Randy” E. (Charolette) Carter of Converse; grandchildren, Melissa Cassell, Amy Turner, Heather Carter, Katelen Rutledge, James Carter, and Christina Carter; great-grandchildren, Ashley Douglas, Ty Cassell, Madison Ayala, Kenny Ayala, Daphne Rutledge, and Karter Rutledge; and great-great-grandchildren, Nathaniel Parry and Brinley Bodkins.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Bonnie M. Barkley and Patricia A. Bishir; and brother, Paul Carter.
The family will receive visitors from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate James’ life will begin at 12:00 noon. Burial will take place at Gardens of Memory in Marion.
