Gregory S. “Greg” Layman

Gregory S. “Greg” Layman, 54, of Van Buren, passed away at 7:30 pm on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at Marion Health. He was born in Anderson, Indiana, on Wednesday, May 21, 1969, to Delma “Joe” and Ada (Young) Layman.  On June 11, 1994, he married Michelle Catron.  

Greg graduated from Madison Heights High School in Anderson in 1987 and went on to graduate from Purdue University with a Bachelor’s in arts with a emphasis in secondary education.

Greg worked as an Eligibility Analyst for Maximus and the State of Indiana. Greg had attended classes through the Nazarene Church to be a minister, and his faith was something that he was extremely proud of.  Greg enjoyed hobby farming and gardening. He liked hiking, especially with his dogs. He was a big sports fan and especially enjoyed watching Purdue. Greg liked woodworking, gaming, playing horseshoes, and cornhole. He loved to learn new things and spent a lot of his time reading. Greg was a Godly man who still had a great sense of humor and unwavering amount of patience.

Survivors include his loving wife, Michelle Catron Layman of Van Buren; daughter, Elise (Zacharia) Gillihan of Hartford City; sons, Kevin (Selena) Layman of Upland, Alexander Layman of Van Buren, Jaden Layman of Van Buren, Hayden Layman of Van Buren, and Caleb Layman of Van Buren; grandchildren, Kassie, Becca, J.D., Brody, Oakley, Ada, and Weston; plus one grandchild on the way, Colter; brothers, Stan (Denise) Wilson and Doug (Kim) Layman; father-in-law, Keith (Linda) Catron; sisters-in-law, Lisa (Glen) Shaw and Melanie Catron; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; his beloved corgi, Tucker; his dogs, Cooper and Ella; his cats, Pepper, Nutmeg, and Ginger, and several ducks and chickens.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Delma “Joe” and Ada Layman; brother, Ricky Wilson; and mother-in-law, Jane Catron.

The family will receive visitors from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm on Sunday, October 8, 2023, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St, Gas City, IN.

Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Gregory’s life will begin at 3:00 pm with Pastor Phil Rogers officiating.
