Jackie “Jack” Ashley

Jackie “Jack” Ashley, 85, Marion, passed away at 1:05 a.m. on Friday, December 14, 2018, at Rolling Meadows Health Care Center in LaFontaine.  He was born in Smithsboro, KY, on September 5, 1933, to Herman and Mary (Adams) Ashley.

Jack was a Korean War veteran, who served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955.  He achieved the rank of Corporal and earned the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Korea Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal.  While in the military, he married his loving wife, Genia M. Smith, on September 14, 1953.  After his honorable discharge, Jack worked at General Motors, where he was a member of the UAW and retired after 45 years.  He enjoyed woodworking and hunting, and he especially loved fishing at Many Point Lake in Minnesota.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Genia; children, Brenda (George) Todd, Marion, Gary Ashley, Noblesville, and Lisa Hoke, Jonesboro; grandchildren, Michael Todd, Stephanie (Anthony) Laws, Rachel (Jordan) Ashley, Megan Ashley, Jessica Hoke, Kelci Hoke, Austin Hoke, and Elijah Hoke; and great-grandchildren, Wyatt (Hailey) Todd, Taylor Todd, Steven Laws, and Jordyn Laws.

He was also preceded in death by son-in-law, Greg Hoke.

The family will receive visitors from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with Jack’s funeral service beginning at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, December 19, 2018, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.  Pastor Alex Mandura will be officiating with burial following at Grant Memorial Park.
