Jack Edwin Holder

Jack Edwin Holder, 80, was called home to glory on Thursday, November 29, 2018, at Marion General Hospital.  He was born on November 14, 1938, to the late Carl and Mildred Holder, and married his sweetheart, Judith Halverson, on June 10, 1961, in Hancock, Wisconsin. Jack graduated from Richland High School in Wisconsin in 1956 and then earned his Bachelor’s degree in history from Marion College in 1966.  Jack taught history at J.C. Knight in Jonesboro for 6 1/2 years, worked as a regional vice president for Integon Life Insurance Company for 20 years, and retired from the VA Medical Center as a carpenter after 18 years of service.  Jack honorably served in the United States Army from 1957-1960, and was a faithful attendee of Lakeview Wesleyan Church since 1962.  Always a hardworking man, Jack helped with the construction of the church, served the Interaction Sunday school class as host for many years, built sets for the children’s choir, and hosted life groups in his home with Judi.  An avid football fan, his favorite teams were the Green Bay Packers, Notre Dame, and the Wisconsin Badgers. A man of simple pleasures, Jack enjoyed cribbage games, roller coasters, any book he could get his hands on, and the sound of his grandchildren’s laughter echoing through his home. He lived a quiet life of faith, setting an example for the generations to come, encouraging them to seek out God’s will above all else.

Jack is survived by his wife, Judith, Jonesboro; three children, Leiloni Holder, New Port Richey, FL; Lorelei Moore, Jonesboro; and Ellman “Barkley” Holder, Jonesboro; two brothers, Carl Dean (Louise) Holder, Traverse City, MI, and Jonathan (Jacqueline) Holder, Burke, VA; seven grandchildren, Amanda (Kyle) Mock, Zachary (Brooklynn) Moore, Adriana (Matthew) Chidester, Jessie (Mark) Brand, Gage Holder, Spencer Holder, and Tate Holder; and four great grandchildren, who love and miss their Pops.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Mildred Holder.
