Imogene May Lowden

Imogene May Lowden, 92, Gas City, passed away in her home on the morning of Friday, March 15, 2024 with her family by her side. She was born in Marion, Indiana, on Thursday, March 10, 1932, to Carl and Gladys (Payne) Arbuckle and was one of two children.  

As a young woman, she fell in love with and married Robert L. Wilkins, Sr., and he left her widowed with three young sons. She later met Frank Lowden and they were happily married for 46 years and had two daughters.

She retired after 32 years from Owens-Illinois in Gas City and was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great and great-great grandmother, during her incredible 92 years of life.

We will remember her for her cleverness, strong-will, and occasional endearing stubbornness. She had an enormous heart and was very loyal. She loved her family and grandchildren dearly and was the glue that held her family together.

Imogene loved sports and was an avid Colts, Pacers, and Cubs fan. She also enjoyed puzzles and card playing, which was a connector for her with many family members. You would always find her traveling, rummaging, reading, and crocheting. Most of all, her favorite role was that of a grandparent. She was so proud and would always boast about all of her grandchildren.

Imogene was survived her children, Robert L. (Darlene) Wilkins of Marion, Randy (Karen) Wilkins of Marion, Tonya (Rex) Crosby of Gas City, Trina (Mike) Griffith of Gas City; step-children, Phillip (Rebecca Eib) Lowden of Gas City, Frank (Anita) Lowden of Marion, Pamela (Mike) Fech of Huntington; 16 grandchildren; and many great and great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by husbands, Robert Wilkins, Sr. and Frank Lowden; parents, Carl and Gladys Arbuckle; sister, Willodean Murray; and son, Richard Wilkins.

The family will receive visitors from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Thursday, March 21, 2024 at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, Storey Chapel 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN.

Immediately following the time of a visitation, a funeral service to celebrate Imogene’s life will begin at 1:00 pm at the funeral home with Pastor Mick Simpkins officiating. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Fairmount.
