Helen “Louise” Modlin

Helen “Louise” Modlin, 88, Marion, passed away at Miller’s Merry Manor in Marion at 4:45 a.m. on Friday, September 21, 2018.  She was born in Marion on April 14, 1930, to the late George LeRoy and Geraldine Yvonne (Boyer) Snider.  On June 12, 1948, she married her loving husband, W.E. “Junior” Modlin, Jr., and he preceded her in death on December 27, 1994.

Louise attended Van Buren High School and was a cook at R.J. Baskett Middle School.  She was a member of the American Legion in Van Buren.

She was an avid fan of the Indiana Pacers, and she loved country music, especially Conway Twitty and Johnny Cash.  Louise loved planting flowers and loved home-grown tomatoes.  She also loved entertaining her family for the holidays, making the best beef and noodles and date pudding.

She is survived by her daughters, Diana L. Embree, Marion, and Linda S. (Andrew C.) Whirl, Florida; grandchildren, R. Wade Embree, Evansville, and Hannah M. (Andrew D.) Harsanyi, California; and her cats, Lucy, Missy, and Sammie.

Also preceding her in death were her brother, Edwin L. Snider; sister, Carolyn A. Sexton; and granddaughter, Dawn L. Embree.

The family will receive visitors from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with Louise’s funeral service beginning at 1 p.m. on Monday, September 24, 2018, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN.  Burial will follow at Van Buren Cemetery.
