Helen G. Sproul, 82, Marion, died at 6:05 p.m. on Wednesday, April 13, 2016, at Marion General Hospital. She was born in Holcomb, MO, to the late Raymond M. and Laura (Goodwin) Barnes. She married Robert Sproul, and he preceded her in death on December 6, 1997.
Helen was a homemaker and considered herself a country girl. She loved to decorate in a country style and was always going to antique shops, flea markets, and auctions. Helen enjoyed studying history, going to restaurants, and sitting on outdoor swings.
Survivors include her children, Dwayne (Patricia) Shields, Marion, Debra Chandler, Lagro, and Shannon Purtee, Marion; grandchildren, Paul (Elisheba) Shields, Sandra Maxey, and Ryan (Momie) Knight; great-grandchildren, Tom (Melissa) Shrout, Curtis Maxey, Alyssa Shields, Cheyenne Maxey Sowels, Isaiah Shields, Jennessa Shields, Morgan Knight, Meagan Knight, Hughie Knight, and Haddie Knight; great-great-grandchildren, Nevaeh Shrout, Anna Belle Maxey, and Braxton Shrout; sister, Carolyn Beaugard; special nieces, Rhonda Ernst and Carol Parcha; and very good friend, Peggy Sexton.
In addition to her husband and parents, Helen was preceded in death by her siblings, Owen Proffer, Jr., Louise Proffer, Betty Proffer, Christine Proffer, Verline Proffer, and Sandra Barnes.
Friends and family may call from 12-2 p.m. on Sunday, April 17, 2016, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. with Rev. Marcus Combs officiating. Burial will follow on Monday at Gardens of Memory.
