Harold Jackson

Harold Jackson, 85, of Marion, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, September 24, 2022, at Wyndmoor of Marion. He was born in Marion, Indiana, on Friday, January 22, 1937, to Albert and Elizabeth (Johnson) Jackson.  On November 27, 1959, he married June Dixon, and she survives.  

Harold graduated from Marion High School in 1955 and from Taylor University in 1959 with a B.A. degree in music. He went on to receive his Master’s degree from Ball State University.

Harold worked with Marion Community Schools for over 30 years as a Choral Music teacher at Jones Junior High School, where he was especially known for the colorful operettas that he directed. He was a music director for several congregations, most notably at South Marion Friends, Upland Friends, and College Wesleyan Church, where he directed the men’s chorus.  Beyond directing, he performed music both vocally and instrumentally on piano and trombone with the Mississinewa Valley Band.  Having learned many of the skills while constructing his own home, Harold was an accomplished craftsman and owned a small woodworking business after his retirement. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and he loved the time he spent in God’s great outdoors. He was also very good at baking and making candy, which he relished sharing with family and friends. Above all, Harold was a faithful follower of Christ, and he will be forever loved, cherished and dearly missed by his family and friends. 

Survivors include his loving wife, June Jackson; daughter, Diane (Jim) Cummer of Carmel; son, Terry (Teresa Nevil) Jackson of West Chester, OH; grandsons, Nicholas Cummer of Carmel and Carter Jackson of West Chester, OH; granddaughter, Elise Jackson of West Chester, OH; brother-in-law, Tal McPherson; sister-in-law, Patricia “Patti” Jackson of Marion; and several dear nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Jonathan Jackson; brothers, Gene Jackson, Richard Jackson, Earl Jackson, and Jerry Jackson; and sister, Joan McPherson.

The family will receive visitors from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Monday, October 3, 2022, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.

Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Harold’s life will begin at 1:00 pm with Pastor Mark Biehl officiating.  Burial will take place at Jefferson Cemetery in Upland.
