Gwendolyn Louise Gordon

GOD withdrew His breath of life from Gwendolyn Louise Gordon, 79, Marion, on Sunday, July 2, 2023. She was born in Marion, Indiana, on February 11, 1944, to Warland Artis, Sr., and Irene (Matthews) Lake.

Gwendolyn attended Marion High School and worked at RCA for 35 years until they closed. She was baptized and a member of Greater Second Baptist Church of Marion, where she served in the women’s ministry and food pantry. She was also a deaconess, and she and her husband were greeters at the church.

Gwendolyn loved puzzle books, cutting grass and yard work, and circus peanuts. She loved her family and taking care of them. Gwendolyn was the kindest woman and would help anyone and everyone any way she could. She loved her special childhood friends and her church family.

Survivors include her husband of six years, Richard Gordon of Marion; children, Monica Artis (Darryl) Clark of Marion, Teresa Thomas of Marion, Curtis (Terri) Thomas, Jr., of Indianapolis, Romona (Chris) Smith of Indianapolis, and Carmela Thomas of Indianapolis; Paula Stein of Battle Creek, MI; bonus children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; siblings, Sharon Boyce of Marion, Margarett Jones of Marion, Henrietta Thomas of Cincinnati, OH, Georgianna Farahkhan of Tulsa, OK, and Arthur Shipp of Marion; godson, KharMohn Speed; and sister-in-law, Diane Artis of Marion.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Earl R. Knight, Henry Shipp, Jr., Warland Artis, Jr., and James Jerry Knight; 1 grandson; and 2 great-grandsons.

The family will receive visitors from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at Greater Second Baptist Church, 705 W. 26th St., Marion, IN 46953.

Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Gwendolyn’s life will begin at 12:00 noon with Pastor Benney L. Powell, Sr., officiating.  Burial will take place at Grant Memorial Park.
