Gilberto Aguilera, Sr.

Gilberto Aguilera, Sr., 53, Converse, passed away at 2:53 pm on Tuesday, July 5, 2022, in his home. He was born in Brownsville, Texas, on Thursday, August 15, 1968, to Julian and Columba (Medina) Aguilera. On March 6, 1993, he married Rosalba Avilez, and she survives. 

Gilberto graduated from Eastern High School (Greentown) and worked at Thomson Consumer Electronics (formerly RCA). He enjoyed walking around and talking to people in the Converse community. He always had a joke or story to tell. Gilberto loved his children and grandchildren; they were the light of his life. He fought a hard, physical battle like a warrior to remain with his family for as long as he could. Gilberto will be greatly missed by his family and friends. 

In addition to his loving wife, Rosalba, survivors include his son, Gilberto Aguilera, Jr., of Converse; daughters, Christina (Derek Oldham) Aguilera and Ellie Aguilera of Converse; granddaughters, Evie Thompson and Laynie Oldham; brothers, Julian, Hector, and Desi; and sisters, Linda, Maria, Elva, Yolanda, and Griselda. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Dora. 

The family will receive visitors from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Monday, July 11, 2022, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN. 

On Tuesday, July 12, 2022, a funeral service to celebrate Gilberto’s life will take place at the funeral home at 11:00 am. Pastor Mick Simpkins will be officiating with burial following at Converse Cemetery.
