Gary Robert “Hawk” Broadfoot Sr., 76, North Manchester, passed away at his home on June 29, 2023. Born in New Albany on March 3, 1947, Gary was the son of the late Robert and Arlene (Johnson) Broadfoot.
After graduating from New Albany High School in 1965, Gary enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served proudly for two years until receiving an honorable discharge. He then returned home and began working for GTE which later became Verizon and eventually Frontier in North Manchester. During Gary’s time with the phone company, he worked in the central office, repairing lines and running wire from the relays to telephone numbers. He retired in 2013 after thirty-five years of service.
On May 11, 2001, Gary married his best friend, Dove Lewis. Each brought children into the marriage and loved their spouse’s children like they were their own. Gary was the best partner and friend, the life of the party, and always had a good story to share. He was incredibly proud of all of his children and especially fond of his granddaughter Vivienne, for whom he loved making breakfast on the weekends. Gary delighted in taking Vivienne to the daddy/daughter dance every year. He also loved riding his motorcycle around town until his health prevented him from doing so.
The loving memory of Gary Broadfoot will be forever cherished by his wife, Dove Broadfoot, North Manchester; children, Gary Robert (Esther Pennepacker) Broadfoot Jr., Orlando, Florida, Promise Reynaud, North Manchester, Joshua (Stephanie) Reynaud, Howard, Nevada, and Daniel (Olivia O’Neal) Reynaud, Indianapolis; granddaughter, Vivienne Elizabeth Rose Broadfoot-Reynaud; brother, Dale (Etta) Broadfoot, Wabash; and sister, Luan Broadfoot, Wichita, Kansas. Gary was preceded in death by his parents.
The family of Gary Broadfoot Sr., will have a private service at a later date.
