Freda Mae (Housel) Krevda

Freda Mae (Housel) Krevda, 97, of Gas City, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, October 18. Freda was born December 1,1925, to William and Alpha Housel in Meyersdale, Pennsylvania.  She married John J. Krevda on February 23, 1952.  They moved to Gas City in 1956, where they raised their family, grew a business (Krevda Brothers Express) and generously supported many community organizations and civic projects.  He passed away in 1997.  

A loving mother and grandmother, Freda enjoyed crafting, ceramics, gardening, and RV camping.  She especially took pleasure in decorating her home for various holidays.  Prior to her marriage, she was part of the workforce of women who kept America’s factories going during World War II.  When her children grew more independent, she returned to work for Mississinewa Schools where she utilized her talents in baking and cooking.  She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus, the Family Motor Coach Association, the Band Parents Association, and a Cub Scout Den Leader,

Freda is survived by two sons, David (Peggy) of Holland, Michigan, and Neil (Linda) of Trafalgar, Indiana.  She is also survived by her sister, Geraldine Housel of LaVale, Maryland, six grandchildren, Matthew (Amy) Krevda, Meredith (R.J.) Ceccon, Maria (Shane) Carne, Stefanie Krevda (Daniel Elliott), Grant Krevda (Kayli Schafer) and Jacob (Katie) Krevda, nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her parents, sisters Mildred Kelly and Lorene Bittner, and brother Dale Housel.

The family would like to express special thanks to her sister, Geraldine Housel, niece, Kim Housel, and nephew, Randy Housel, for their devotion and care during the final years of Freda’s life

A visitation will be held from 9:00 am to 10:30 am on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, Storey Chapel 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN.

Immediately following the time of visitation, a funeral mass will be held at 11:00 am at Holy Family Catholic Church 324 E. North A St., Gas City, IN.
